Working at a desk all day is no excuse for not exercising regularly to stay healthy and fit. This article from the National Post outlines various ways Canadians are able to be active while at the office. Some employees have switched their office chairs for exercise balls while some companies have opted to have treadmill and standup desks as an option for their employees.
Treadmill desks that are specifically made for the workplace only move at a speed of 1 to 2 mph, just enough to get the heart rate up but not too fast to distract from doing desk work comfortably. Studies have shown for years that too much sitting during the day can increase your risk for obesity, high blood pressure, developing diabetes and heart disease. Endocrinologist, Dr. James Levine, says even going to the gym 3 times a week does not make up for the harm of being inactive all day
